Project description:
The project to make a Cafeteria Menu with pictograms of ARASAAC arises from the need to adapt it to the needs of a student of the CEE APADIS hired for the summer months in the integrated cafeteria area of the First Radio Café of Spain “MQR” in Villena (Alicante).
Given this job offer, some communication difficulties appear between the student and the clients,so the idea of adapting the cafeteria menu to eliminate existing communication barriers arises.
The main purpose is to provide visual information in a logical way to the client and facilitate the quick interpretation of the order using the letter with pictograms, favoring communication between employee / client.
The vocabulary has been selected based on the needs of the context in which the establishment operates.
The realization of the project has been possible thanks to the proposal of the Speech Therapy service, the coordination of the Counselor and the collaboration of Victoria López Martínez, who has developed all the graphic adaptations of the pictograms and adjustments requested by the cafeteria (font, anagram, colors and size).
The cafeteria has participated by promoting its use and presentation to its public and in extending the idea to more restaurants and cafes in the population.
From ARASAAC,we support all these types of initiatives and we convey our congratulations to the participating entities, because these types of measures that demonstrate that it is possible to make all contexts cognitively accessible to people with difficulties in communication.
